My background is in the media industry.
In 2003 I decided to re-train and gained a diploma in Psychodynamic Counselling in 2007. I gained self-accreditation in May 2011. Accreditation is awarded to practitioners who have conducted over 450 hours of counselling/psychotherapy and have met all the accreditation criteria laid out by the BACP. Practitioners can practice without accreditation but it is a useful benchmark when looking for a therapist. I have worked privately and in the voluntary sector for over 10 years. |
I have worked in various settings from an addictions unit to a busy GP practice.
Whilst training towards my qualification I worked for over six years at a busy residential crisis unit, which provided short-term crisis intervention for adults from all backgrounds. Currently I act as a consultant offering workshops on mental health to various organisations. I am also a Critical Incident consultant offering on site support after a traumatic event. |
My approach is psychodynamic/analytical. This means gaining understanding from both the conscious and the unconscious.
Sometimes we can get involved in unhelpful patterns in relationships which we are unwittingly contributing to. Psychodynamic psychotherapy enables a greater understanding of our subconscious and allows us to bring some of this ‘unknown’ material to the surface so that we can gain greater awareness and make changes. For short term work I mainly focus on the 'here and now' and together we identify the main themes that need to be looked at. Long term work involves looking at both the past and the present and exploring things on a deeper level. |
I am an accredited member of the British Psychoanalytic Council (BPC) and the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) .
I keep abreast of professional developments in psychotherapy, counselling and supervision practice. I regularly attend supervision for my own continued professional development. I adhere to the Code of Ethics and Practice of the BACP. I have an up to date Advanced Disclosure CRB certificate (February 2021). I am a registered practitioner with Bupa, Aviva, Pruhealth, AXA PPP, WPA, Vitality Health and Cigna for private health insurance. |
